SIPs Deliver Winter Surprise for Unsuspecting Owner

A Better Roof for Walgreens of Windsor

ACH Foam Technologies provided over one million board feet of Foam Control EPS Roof Insulation for the Walgreens 440,000 square feet distribution facility in Windsor, Wis., in a recent re-roofing project. The first phase of re-roofing was in October-November 2010, with completion estimated for this spring. Walgreens wanted a high-performance roof that would provide better insulation properties and energy savings.

Building with SIPs

Value for builders, owners, and the environment. Structural insulated panels (SIPs) have become a popular energy saving building material. Since they are manufactured to spec, there is nearly zero waste on the jobsite and labor is significantly reduced, with time savings from 30 to 40 percent. SIPs also make inside finish work easier to complete - drywall goes up faster and cabinets are quickly attached directly into the facing.

Focus on Foam: Utah’s Trax line builds toward airport

Each of the two fill sections on this portion of the project is estimated to be larger than any known continuous section of geofoam fill used in the U.S. By comparison, the Trax West Valley line, although it used 1,890,000 ft3 of geofoam, was installed in seven different sections along the light-rail line (approximately 270,000 ft3 per section). Each of the airport extension sections will use approximately 800,000 ft3.

Doubling Up for a Greener Solution

Two companies work together to double the amount of recycled content in EPS Packaging. ACH Foam Technologies has been recycling and reprocessing polystyrene for years. In 2010, however, the EPS manufacturer began molding EPS packaging using EcoSix Molding Beads from RAPAC containing 60% or more recycled content, leaping ahead of typically much smaller percentage rates.
