  The Big One.  Distribution Center Uses 2.75 Million Board Feet of EPS Insulation

Construction of the new Uline distribution center, 1 million-plus square-foot facility in Pleasant Prairie, Wis., was completed in the summer of 2009.  The circumference of the Uline Distribution Center is nearly one mile, and its massive roof required the insulation of 2.75 million board feet of Foam-Control EPS insulation.

In the second-largest application ever of its kind, hundreds of polystyrene block are helpng expedite an expansion of Salt Lake City's Transit Express (TRAX) light-rail system.  The lightweight material, akin to styrofoam, is helping Utah Transit Authority save at least $20 million and eight months of time by avoiding soil settlement issues.

  Foam Packaging Giant Opens Wine Distributorship in Napa

ACH Foam Technologies, a large producer of plastic foam products for construction and packaging, has formed WineLoc Packaging Products in south Napa.

Denver-based ACH has been producing wine shipping materials for the last couple of years, distributing them to North Coast wineries, wine clubs and fulfillment houses via local distributors. Now the company is launching its own distributorship, WineLoc, with new wine-tailored packaging and plans for oft-requested packing options.

A recently released report, 2008 EPS Recycling Rate Report, compiled by R.W. Beck for the Alliance of Foam Packaging Recyclers (AFPR), shows an industry-wide increase of total EPS recycling. Total EPS recycling for post-consumer and post-industrial EPS increased from 56.5 million lb in 2006 to 69.4 million lb in 2008, a 22.6% increase in total pounds recycled.

Green-minded managers of Patterson Dental building in Dinuba, Ca, had 160,000 sq. ft. of SecureTherm composite roof insulation installed on the building's metal roof deck in the summer of 2008.  Using EPs insulation raised the R-Value from R-30 to R-38 to make the building more energy efficient.
